Congress opening

"Welcome everybody in Glasgow!" - Owen N. greets the audience
With the opening words of Owen Nevin, Chair of the Local Organizing Committee, ECCB2012 started yesterday evening. After the greetings from Lord Provost of Glasgow, Ian Bainbridge gave a short introduction about Scotland wildlife. The Society president, Paul Beier shared his dedication for working in the scientific community of SCB, while our Section president, András Báldi cheered up the audience by looking back to the beginnings in Eger, Hungary, 2006. Finally Sir Robert Watson held an inspiring and impulsive talk on "Making better policy by involving science".

The Congress focus on ongoing science-policy initiatives  such as IPBES was re-emphasized by the opening talks. Importance of transdisciplinarity, knowledge exchange and the end-users involvement in designing and conducting scientific research was also highlighted by Sir R. Watson.
