IPBES Meeting - 17 April

Day two finished at the IPBES meeting in Panama. There was good support for a wide involvement of stakeholders, so the SCB can surely take part in the upcoming work. What the actual role of the stakeholders might be will be decided later this week. Today’s main issue was however, whether IPBES should have one or two subsidiary bodies dealing with the administrative and scientific functions of the platform. The question is if science is better served by being dealt with separately from the administrative aspects or if there is a point to have one integrated body that can have a good overview of all aspects. There was basically a draw between the two options and the plenary will consider a compromise tomorrow.
