Multiple-front conservation - 7th Hungarian Congress of Conservation Biology
More than 350 conservation professionals gathered in the 7th Congress of Hungarian Conservation Biology in Debrecen, Hungary, 3-6 November. The conference organized by the Hungarian Biological Society, University of Debrecen, Hortobágy National Park and the Hungarian Academy of Science had the following theme: "Multi-front conservation: volunteers, conservation professionals and researchers united for the conservation of biodiversity".
The issue of public participation, interdisciplinary approach and the importance of volunteers in nature conservation received a significant role in the scientific program. Traditional ecological knowledge and the concept of ecosystem services were also highlighted as the focus of the conference. In addition, a special symposium was devoted to habitat restoration case studies..
Raphael Arlettaz (University of Bern), chair of the Membership Committee of the Society for Conservation Biology Europe Section visited the congress and promoted the newly launched chapter initiative of the SCB-ES.
The Congress series include large congresses in every 3rd year and smaller workshops between the congresses.
